How I capture my own family memories on film…

Since he could walk, my son has always loved going for walks, plopping down on the side of the trail, and picking flowers. The pictures I take aren’t random, I try to capture the common moments because I know they will one day not be common anymore and I’ll absolutely treasure the pictures.

Cameras, especially SLR cameras, have this crazy potential to capture some of the most ordinary, mundane moments so that we can forever savor them. My philosophy when shooting on film is to simply notice the normal things around, the normal things we do daily, and capture them. In the future, we can look back on these collection and have something visual and tactile from the seasons of our life to remind us how valuable each and every day together is.

I shoot with a 35mm camera the most because that is the closest to the frame we see with our own eyes. I like to leave my photos very lightly edited and only altered if it benefits the overall continuity of the photo, because these are real memories we have lived, and I think it’s cool that we can look back on photos just as we recall those moments.
